Who We Are

What Builds began during a season of unexpected transition in my life.

I was at a low point, uncertain about what came next, and wrestling with burnout from years of involvement in church and ministry. Part of me wanted to withdraw from everything- to stay home, tune out the world, and spend my time focused entirely on myself.

During that season, God brought a passage of scripture to mind: “Not everything is beneficial. Not everything builds up.” — 1 Corinthians 10:23

I began asking myself some difficult questions. I had the freedom to spend my time however I wanted, but would those choices actually lead to anything worthwhile? When I looked back on that season of my life, what would I hope to have built? What would I have contributed to the people and world around me? I knew I needed rest, but I also knew I didn’t want withdrawal to become the way I lived my life. Those questions eventually became the foundation for What Builds.

I began sharing the idea with a few friends, and together we started building something around a simple conviction: our time, energy, money, and attention are worth investing intentionally in things that matter.

Through practical resources, encouragement, and a commitment to giving back to our communities, we hope What Builds helps people pause, consider their choices, and invest more of their lives in what is truly worthwhile.

That remains an ongoing goal in my own life, and I’m grateful to be part of What Builds and the wonderful work our team is doing.

A Note From Our Founder

To encourage intentional living by helping people recognize, pursue, and invest in the things that truly build up themselves and those around them.

Our Mission

A team working together around a table

We have limited time, energy, money, and attention. Every day, we decide what deserves them.

Not everything is beneficial. Not everything builds up.

What Builds exists to help people live more intentionally—to pause, consider what is worth investing in, and choose the things that build something worthwhile. Not everything deserves our attention. Not everything is worth our money. Not every opportunity deserves our energy.

Build your health.
Build your relationships.
Build your character.
Build your faith.
Build your creativity.
Build your community.
Build a meaningful life.

Be intentional.
Our time, energy, money, and attention are limited. Choose deliberately what deserves them.

Choose what benefits.
Not everything is worth pursuing simply because it's available, popular, or profitable. We value things that genuinely add value.

Keep growing.
Invest in the things that help you become healthier, wiser, stronger, more capable, and more grounded.

Build what matters.
A meaningful life is about more than productivity or consumption. Relationships, faith, creativity, community, experiences, and purpose matter.

Build beyond yourself.
What we build should have the potential to bless others. A good life isn't only about what we gain, but what we give.

Our Values

Our Motivation

Life is too precious to live without purpose.
